Guidance for any rewrite of the C&Bs

Scott's picture

When we're looking at any sort of rewrite of the C&Bs, I feel very strongly that there is a guiding prinicipal behind any changes. This means there are several things that must be achieved, or we must reject the changes outright:

  1. Correct the obvious errors.
  2. Break out the current articles into more appropriate groupings.
  3. Use plain English.
  4. Must provide objective guidance, rather than leaving decisions to the subjective whim of those reading the articles.
  5. Most important to me, all changes must be written with a mind to leaving, or giving back, control of the Union to the members!!!

Any attempt to consolidate more power in the Board, Officers, staff, etc. must be stopped. We have already allowed them to take control of far too much in the operation of the Union. This includes an absolute requirement for transparency of operations and the easy availability of records to all members. Keeping us uninformed is one of the ways we keep the membership in line. Unfortunately, ignorance is not bliss!
