This is a question rather than an answer. The reason I ask it is that I have observed staff going beyond what I think their proper role should be. Staff makes no secret that they support certain candidates for office at the local and state levels. Is this proper? My guess is no. Staff regularly influence committee appointments, and according to a friend on the staff screening committee, staff coach candidates they want to pass and sometimes even accompany them to their interviews. ![]() As promised, here's a report on the Bargaining Conference that took place last Saturday, August 15th, 2009. There were a lot of familiar faces, and some new ones (to me). The conference started at 9:00 AM with a welcome from SEIU Local 503 President Linda Burgin. She spoke about how the initial fast-track bargaining had served to involve the members and keep them involved for the entire bargaining session. As one who used to be on Roselli's list, I've received tons of "information" from Sal and the old guard at UHW. DVD's, letters, news clippings, etc. I'm very loyal to our union, but to me, loyalty involves always being vigilent to help keep our union on the right track. So I have listened to Sal and his supporters. I've written back and forth. I really tried to talk those folks into staying within our ranks when they formed NUHW. We can tolerate dissent and we should always embrace constructive reform. read more » |

The policy was approved by the International Executive Board at their June 13th, 2009 meeting. We've mentioned before how it was developed under wraps. Then, some leadership was shown a preliminary copy to provide comments on. Supposedly those comments and the feedback received were incorporated into the final policy. read more » |
