The server Eye On The 503 is hosted on had its disk space upgraded this evening. There was an interruption in service from around 10:20 P.M. to 10:50 P.M.

Problems posting comments?

Recently there have been a couple of anonymous users posting comments, but they never show up on the site. This was discovered through the spam service reporting. So, the question is, are they being blocked by the spam service even though it says that the messages are fine? Or are people just not clicking Submit to finish the process?

Spammers

As many of you may have noticed, spam is on the rise. In fact, it took a drastic upturn just as the economy was really getting bad. We've been very fortunate that our current measures have been so effective. It's not that they aren't trying. We're seeing reported attempts of around 100 per day. That often spikes up to 200+ attempts per day.

Updated logo

With the celebration of our one-year anniversary, it was time to roll out the updated logo. We considered having a general poll to help with the selection, but decided not to. Amongst those asked to participate in the selection process, it was a surprisingly smooth selection.

Server update

The server this site is hosted on received an operating system update last night, starting around 11:30 PM. If you tried to access the site during the 2 hours from 11:30 PM-1:30 AM, the site would have come us as unavailable.

While we did receive notification that the update would be performed "soon," we did not receive a follow-up update with a more precise date and time. We will continue to work on getting better, and more timely, communications from our host.

Site outage

Anonymous voting issues

There have been issues with voting anonymously on the polls. The main symptom is that the page refreshes and says that your vote has been counted, but the votes show no change. Some browsers also lose all formatting for the site when the page refreshes. read more »

Site unavailable

The site was unavailable tonight between approximately 7:00 PM and 7:45 PM. Some unexpected maintenance was apparently performed on the server. After that the server was under a heavy load as it came back up.
